Catalog description
An introduction to remotely sensed digital earth data acquisition, interpretation, processing, and analysis. Conceptual topics include principles of electromagnetic radiation, digital image storage and visualization, sensors (optical and lidar) and platforms (satellites, aircraft, drones), image enhancement, image classification/machine learning and accuracy assessment. Emphasis is placed on practical/hands-on experience with GIS and remote sensing software to analyze land cover change, vegetation health, and urban environments. Prerequisite: GEOG 360 or consent of instructor.
