FREN 113
Accelerated Elementary French
Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
An intensive, communication-based introduction to the fundamental structures of French grammar and usage, conducted at a faster pace than the regular FREN 111-115 sequence. The course integrates listening, speaking, reading, writing, and intercultural competence to develop a strong foundation and communicative proficiency in the language. Designed for students who prefer an accelerated or more intensive introduction or refresher in French, including those with limited or “unstructured” prior experience (e.g., brief travel, minimal home exposure, self-study) or a solid background in another Romance language. This course replaces FREN 111 and FREN 115. Students who receive credit for this course may not receive credit for FREN 111 or 115. Students whose prior experience exceeds the appropriate level will be advised to enroll in a higher-level course and may be deregistered. Not open to heritage or native speakers, or to students with more than two years of high school French. Offered regularly.
