U.S. Energy Policies

Catalog description

This course is designed for Environmental Sciences and Environmental Studies majors as well as non-majors. Mitigating and building resilience to climate change and global security shifts require significant changes in the policy, technical, and societal configurations of today’s U.S. energy systems. These changes have previously occurred both in the U.S. and globally, and are known as Energy Transitions. This course approaches energy policies from a transition-relevant perspective, recognizing the dynamic landscape within which energy actors operate. The course investigates the opportunities and barriers of different energy policy strategies for sustainable development. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of different energy systems and technologies, their policy landscapes within the U.S., and the barriers/opportunities they face. Prerequisites: ENVI 101 and ENVI 201.Offered each fall.
