ENG 568A Indigenous & Settler NY 1600-1800 - This course looks at the early modern literature and history of the area that would later become New York state. We will examine Indigenous histories in the region, with a particular focus on the Haudenosaunee, and think and talk about how the area was transformed by the arrival of European powers (the Dutch, English, and French) in the 17th and 18th centuries. We will read a mixture of literature and historical sources, and examine maps and material culture.
