LGBTQIA2S+ people have always existed. This class studies texts and artifacts by and about LGBTQIA2S+ in the Middle Ages, drawing from Europe, the Middle East, India, and other regions of the globe. Ultimately, this class will be shaped around three questions: 1) What continuities connect LGBTQ+ experiences today with those of 1000+ years ago? 2) What significant differences between time periods and cultures must be kept in mind? 3) What value is there in historical representation? In other words, why is it important today to uncover the rich artistic, social, and intellectual genealogies of the LGBTQ+ Middle Ages? Restriction: No freshman permitted. Offered regularly.
