This course explores the published novels - and several minor works - by Jane Austen, whose novels combine attention to romance, money, community, desire, class, and more. One aim will be to situate Austen within her various political, religious, social, and literary milieus and thus better appreciate her inventions, interventions - and limitations. We will also think about Austen’s enduring legacy, taking cues from some delicious fictional and on-screen reworkings. Offered regularly.
