ENG 300N Writing for Young People - This is a class in creatively writing for children and YA readers, 0-18. We begin with picture books; then Easy Readers; chapter books; middle grade; YA & New Adult stories; a fantasy novel the class picks. We close with small-group presentations on a book or topic your group chooses. Expect frequent in-class writing, sharing of work, reading responses, and free-writing. NO AI !! Instead of final exams or papers, you'll hand in a midterm and final portfolio.. I don't give letter grades to individual pieces, and prefer not to focus there. Participation, honest effort, response to others' writing, quality, revision, kindness and courage all matter. Everything matters, especially you. The class is fun, serious, encouraging and welcoming to all.
