ENG 180J Futures Past - How have past writers and artists imagined the future? This Source Project research stream explores literary utopias/dystopias, speculative fiction, film, and political treatises, mostly from Britain and the US. We will consider yesterday's visions of tomorrow as critiques of existing social conditions, as warnings about novel ideologies and technologies, and as blueprints for possible alternatives. In the spring semester, students will develop independent research projects focused on a central text or theme.
