Catalog description

This course uses the metaphor of windows and mirrors to allow teacher candidates to foster student-centered learning environments that both affirm children’s identities (mirrors) and provide them opportunities to view and relate to the experiences of others (windows). Using culturally responsive and progressive theory and pedagogy, teacher candidates will develop rich lessons based on student interests and community assets that will allow children to explore real world situations, extend their knowledge of and beyond their own experiences, and take action to create positive social change. Offered: Spring.
