Implantable biomedical electronics is the application of engineering principles to biology, medicine, and health. These novel devices have become an important set of tools in medical technologies and are widely employed for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in the human body, for patient rehabilitation, and for improving health. In this course, we cover the operational principles of diverse implantable bioelectronic devices in the context of human physiology and pathophysiology. Some of the topics include prosthetic devices, neural interfaces, brain implants, implantable biosensors, and more. This course also provides in depth discussion on human physiology and pathophysiology for understanding the potential impact of this emerging technology on patient care and clinical outcomes. 3 Credits.
