Game theory studies problems concerning the interaction among decision-making agents with different objectives. Typical problem scenarios originate from engineered, economics, and social systems, including path planning for multi-vehicle robotics, resource allocation for security, and mechanism design for optimal pricing in electronic commerce. This course will provide an overview of game theory through an engineering lens, with an emphasis on the physical intuition behind the concepts and design techniques. This class will cover, beyond the essential game theory concepts, security games, mechanism design and algorithmic game theory. The intended audience is senior undergraduate and graduate students in the broad engineering, computing, and science disciplines, including social scientists interested in quantitative methods for socio-technical systems, biologists working on adaptation mechanisms and evolutionary dynamics, and physicists working on complex systems. Special Topics course, 3 credits.
