Catalog description

Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in ECON 360 or 362; also grades of C or better in college level statistics and calculus. The course explores the process of economic development from a historical perspective. It draws on contemporary theories of economic development and the historical experience of various regions over the last millennium. The substantive focus is on the cultural, institutional and social foundations for economic growth. We will consider in particular the growth experiences of Europe and China. Format: There will be a midterm, final, an article review and a term paper.
