This course is an introduction to the design and usage of databases for the storage, organizing, and retrieval of large datasets in a real-world context. Students will study historical and current social issues involved in tracking and storing large amounts of data. Students will learn how to use the SQL programming language to manipulate and summarize data in databases, as well as to build the table structure itself. Students will learn and apply design fundamentals and diagramming tools for working with large data sets, as well as ethical best practices for the collection, storing, sharing, and narrating of data.
