CS 447
High Performance Computing
Binghamton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Covers the area of high performance computing for machine learning, big data, and scientific computing. Students learn about techniques for programs where performance is a significant concern. A substantial part of the material will cover parallel computation, including multicore/multhreading, GPU coding (CUDA), and vectorization. A variety of different algorithms and applications will be considered, such as machine learning, big data, and more traditional scientific computing. Most assignments and projects will prohibit AI, but at least one of the projects will require AI. Prerequisite: CS 220 and CS 310. All prerequisites must have a grade of C- or better. Typically offered at least once every academic year.
