Catalog description

This course centers on the construction of cinematic time through frame-by-frame practice in both analog and digital animation. Students work in dedicated production labs with access to Adobe Creative Cloud and Dragonframe stop-motion software, digital and 16mm film cameras with animation stands, light boxes, and peg boards. Individual and collaborative projects emphasize process, material decision-making, and the shaping of movement and duration. Students will test the expressive possibilities of animation across nonfiction, narrative, and abstract modes. Screenings of independent artists? films, alongside critical readings, provide historical and theoretical grounding for studio work. Course fee applies. Please refer to the schedule of classes. Prerequisite: CINE 121, 122, CINE 252. Offered spring only.
