Advanced Film and Video

Catalog description

Advanced Film & Videomaking is a cinema production course designed to help students establish sustainable moving-image practices. Over the course of the semester, each student will shepherd a substantial short-form film or video through ideation, research, production, and post-production, sharing the work as it evolves. Students will actively engage with one another’s projects, participating in detailed and constructive discussions of cinematic form and content. Works-in-progress will be presented on a rotating schedule. The course also addresses professional practices, including film and video distribution strategies and grant writing. Through a series of discussions and journaling exercises, students will reflect on core questions: What does it mean to be a filmmaker? An artist? What does it mean to sustain a creative practice once the scaffolding of school is gone, and how might one continue to cultivate habits of making? Prerequisites: CINE 121, 122, 252, 353 and one of the following: CINE 351, 352, 360 or consent of instructor.
