Binghamton University · 4 credits · UGRD

As an introduction to curating a screening program, with an emphasis on experimental cinema, this course discusses ideas of selecting films and putting them in a screening order according to curatorial themes, while considering a venue and an intended audience. The course also discusses how to introduce a screening program by written and spoken words. The class requires students to watch videos outside of class and to give presentations for individual and/or group curatorial projects, and there are several writing assignments. Towards the end of a semester, students conduct a film festival (SEFF Binghamton: Student Experimental Film Festival of Binghamton) off campus as a group project, and they learn strategies to execute an actual screening event, which would be a unique and eye-opening experience for the local residents. Books: To be announced. Prerequisites: CINE 121, 122 & 252 or consent of instructor. This is an ASL course (Academic Service-Learning).
