Catalog description

A foundational course for students who have a certain level of spoken or listening proficiency in Mandarin or another Chinese dialect (such as Cantonese or Fuzhounese) but limited knowledge of reading or writing. The course materials, requirements, learning outcomes, and assessments are the same as CHIN 101; however, the instructional approach and classroom focus are tailored to students with prior exposure to the language. Upon completion, students will be able to converse in Mandarin on basic communication topics such as greetings, self-introduction, family matters, invitations, appointments, simple shopping, and basic transportation. Students will also be able to read and write short dialogues in Chinese characters on the topics covered. Offered in Fall only.
