Catalog description
This course presents characterization techniques used for the investigation of the structure and electronic properties of molecular complexes, with a strong emphasis on practical applications. Techniques covered include diffraction methods, vibrational, optical and NMR spectroscopies, electrochemical methods, X-ray absorption and X-ray photoemission spectroscopies, EPR spectroscopy and magnetometry. Grading is based on homework, open-notes exams and one in-class presentation. Prerequisite: CHEM 221, CHEM 341, CHEM 332.
