Intro to CHEM Communication

Catalog description

Chemistry Communication course for chemistry majors with a focus on the development of science communication skills within the context of current chemical research. Students will utilize primary literature to explore current topics in chemistry, gain proficiency in navigating online databases and library resources. The course will support critical analysis of chemical literature with a focus on the development of written and oral communication skills based on topics of current research in chemistry, documented in primary literature sources. The course must be taken for a letter grade if being taken for a chemistry major. FORMAT: one meeting a week, including lectures, presentations, discussions, homework assignments, student oral reports, and student poster presentations. EVALUATION: Grade based on a series of assignments aimed at achieving the desired learning outcomes of the course. Prerequisites: CHEM107 and CHEM108 (OR CHEM 111 OR CHEM104/CHEM105/CHEM106) and CHEM231. Restrictions: no first year students. Chemistry Majors only. Offered every fall and spring.
