Med Device Reverse Engineering

Catalog description
This course introduces the principles and methodologies of reverse engineering with a focus on biomedical devices. Students will learn how to analyze, deconstruct, and reconstruct existing medical systems through techniques such as data acquisition, point cloud processing, geometric modeling, and performance evaluation. The course also covers fundamental concepts of forward engineering for comparison. Applications include reverse engineering of optical (funduscopic), acoustic (ultrasound and photoacoustic), and X-ray (CT) imaging systems. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on projects, students gain practical experience in understanding device functionality, reconstructing models, and evaluating design performance. Prerequisite: BME 324. Offered: Spring.
