Examination of local native and introduced species and families of higher plants. Emphasizes practical aspects of field collection, documentation, plant identification, interpretation of diagnostic characters and classification. Introduction to plant systematics and phylogenetic reconstruction. Hypothesis generation and testing using both morphological and genetic data. Ecology, ethnobotanical and economic uses of plants. Lecture and laboratory.
