Catalog description

Data analysis and conceptual reasoning involving orbital motion, Kepler and Newton’s laws, gravity, light and spectroscopy, detecting exoplanets, measuring cosmic distances, luminosity and distance to stars, binary stars and spectral classifications, stellar evolution, black holes, and cosmology. Note: This course must be taken concurrently with, or after successful completion of ASTR 114. It cannot be taken before ASTR 114. Prerequisite/corequisite: this course must be taken in addition to ASTR 114, both on a letter grade basis, to satisfy the General Laboratory Science requirement. Offered fall and spring semesters.
