Catalog description

An introductory survey course of astronomy, assuming a high-school mathematics background. A brief introduction to the history of astronomy, observing the night sky, solar system astronomy, exoplanets, stars, galaxies, and cosmology. A broad overview of astronomy giving a historical perspective while emphasizing the modern understanding and future directions of research in the field. Notes: ASTR 114 satisfies the college science requirements. Prerequisite/corequisite: ASTR 115 must be taken in addition to ASTR 114, both on a letter-grade basis, to satisfy the General Education Laboratory Science requirement. Offered fall and spring semesters.
