This course is designed to improve the technical skills used the previous printmaking courses; Arts 254, 255 and 350. The student will refine technical skills and will be encouraged through the process of conceptual theory and independent research to develop a cohesive body of work that utilizes printmaking techniques for his/her personal visual arts language. Through exploration, application and independent research: the student will have the opportunity to further develop a portfolio that utilizes relief printing, intaglio, monotype, silkscreen and collagraphs. This is a unique course and will be individually tailored for the printmaking student. Students will present to the instructor a formal one page written proposal of their intent in printmaking techniques & theory to the instructor at the beginning of the semester. The student will attain the skills to produce work using advanced printmaking techniques in relief printing, intaglio, monotype, silkscreen, collagraphs and multiple color printing. Students will have the availability to choose printmaking methods best suited for the theory based work after researching both concept and methods. The student will be introduced to large format printing, color separation, registration on a variety of papers, and various surface materials. Students will be allowed to integrate all learned techniques in the printing process. The student will work out printmaking problems in technique and theory and will document all processes, techniques and theory throughout the semester in their sketchbooks. The sketchbook may also be used as a means for personal expression. The student will have the opportunity to produce interchangeable multi plate images upon completion of this course. Live Models may be used during the semester to further refine the figure in any medium the students chooses to use. Prerequisites: Arts 171, 254, 255 & 350 There is a $150 fee associated with this class.
