Sculpture 2 Life Sculpture Course Description: This course will introduce students to the basic methods and principles working from the nude model in clay with emphasis on tools materials, techniques and subject. This course is a study of the human form as a locus for expression. Our focus will be the role of perception as a means and process of art making. We will examine the work of contemporary and historical artists as part of our overall concern in considering visual composition and meaning. Format: The nude model will serve as the basis for analysis, and personal investigation. A series of poses will be established throughout the semester that will be tied to direct figure modeling, class critiques and discussion. Class will be augmented by slide presentations providing a framework to identify and consider meaning and the visual vocabulary of the figure as a critical and structural model. Some attention will be given to relief sculpture and portrait sculpture to broaden and integrate the physical, psychological and visual relations of form. Prerequisites: Arts 230 Note: There is a $150 fee associated with this course.
