ARTS 300 "Typography 1" is an introduction to writing with prefabricated letters, familiarizing students with the fundamentals of typography and type design as a critical skill to graphic communication. Students will be introduced to constructing page architectures within typographic space. The functional and expressive aspects of type and text will be explored through its basic history and terminology and a series of directed projects to gain knowledge in the area of type anatomy and selection, legibility, paragraph shaping and styling to effectively design with type. Offered Fall and Spring semesters. Prerequisite: ARTS 210. PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS A RENUMBERED 'ARTS 315' - IF YOU'VE ALREADY TAKEN ARTS 315 DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS COURSE. There is a fee of $95 associated with this course.
