ARTS 260Beginning Photography

This course introduces the basic skills and concepts involved in digital and darkroom photography. Techniques related to camera operation, image processing, printing and print finishing, and aesthetic considerations will be introduced, as well as the development of a vocabulary with which to discuss images. Within a fine art context, the course will explore image construction, concepts, and the unique abilities of the photograph to communicate. Class content will include technical demonstrations, visual lectures related to ongoing projects, and discussion that supports studio assignments and critique. Format may vary by sections, with the semester divided equally between digital and darkroom workflows. Cameras are provided to students for use during the semester. Note: There is a $60 fee associated with this course.
