Examines historical development of anthropological thought, from Antiquity to Enlightenment views of "otherness," through European voyaging and colonialism, 19th century evolutionary thought, 20th century development of different national traditions, postwar decolonization, 1980s' 'reflexive turn' and the emergence of postmodern thought. Emphasis on articulations between anthropological knowledge production and its social, political, and historical contexts. Capstone course for Anthropology majors. Registration preference given to majors.
