AFST 301 is a required course for all Africana Studies majors. The overall emphasis of the course is on applying critical thinking to interdisciplinary research problems in Africana Studies. The course covers common research methods in the humanities and social sciences, including both qualitative and basic quantitative approaches, from a variety of critical and methodological African and African diaspora perspectives. Beginning from foundational approaches to critical thinking, the course explores rhetorical and logical fallacies, statistical literacy, critical approaches to AI, and ethics of research, integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches. Passing with a C is required to advance.
