In this seminar, we study pivotal theoretical and clinical works on psychological trauma and its aftereffects developed by Pierre Janet, Sigmund Freud, Robert Lifton, Judith Herman and Dominick LaCapra and apply these critical frameworks to analysis and interpretation of major novels by Natsume Soseki, Kawabata Yasunari, Ooka Shohei, Oe Kenzaburo, Nosaka Akiyuki and Okuizumi Hikaru, and important films by Imamura Shohei and Takahata Isao.
