Catalog description

This seminar explores medicine and healing, their related practices, and notions of health and the body as they reflect and constitute meaning for Asians and their diaspora. The course covers a range of themes including theoretical foundations of healing practices in the present and earlier periods; conceptions of illness and health; public health and medical services and their intersections with race, gender, class, and empire; bodily discipline and culture; and global health and markets. Knowledge of an Asian language is not required.
