Catalog description

Linguistic characteristics of Chinese, Japanese and Korean through a survey of the sound, writing, grammatical systems, historical development, and social environments of these languages by comparing them with other languages, particularly with English. We will consider a wide array of phenomena in East Asian languages, focusing on how three languages are different in the choice of linguistic form. It also aims at a general understanding of linguistic structure of three languages, with emphasis on their relationship with English structure. Reading materials and lectures are in English.
