Catalog description

This course provides an overview of the historical formation of the south Korean state and politics of belonging through political, social, cultural, and economic processes. Topics include Japanese colonial legacies, Cold War geopolitics, national division, authoritarian rule and democratization, economic development and crisis, nation-building and historical memory, and migration of populations. No prerequisites.
