This course is designed to provide an introduction to Korea through an investigation of its history, culture, religion and literature. We will seek to understand the basic cultural tendencies of Korea and how these have contributed to the formation of the cultures that are presently found on the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the course will, from time to time, highlight both differences and commonalities of Korean culture vis-a-vis other East Asian cultures. As all reading materials for the class and the lectures will be in English, no knowledge of the Korean language is required for this class.
