Preaching Imagination: Witness

Catalog description

In this course students will engage the preaching imagination by exploring preaching as a poet, prophet, and witness. Students will explore the poetics of crafting a sermon, focusing on rhetoric, language, imagery, and form. As a prophet, students will utilize methods to craft sermons that engage scripture and context to lead to social transformation. As a witness, students engage an expanded genre of preaching to consider testimony of God’s love and justice in the world beyond the pulpit. This course will offer resources and methods to develop creative practices to preach engaging and transformative sermons. Student will receive feedback from peers and instructor.
