This course examines the history of American from approximately 1790 to 1850. Early republic topics will include: the ideology of the American political systems and cultures; the Age of Jefferson and the Age of Jackson in political terms; the rise of the market revolution; western expansion; the emergence of a “middle” and “working” class culture; and the origins of the sectional debate.
