Catalog description

Introduction to material properties and selection for engineering applications. Topics include: materials and their characteristics; design-based material selection; crystallography; material properties; fracture; fatigue; phase diagrams; engineering alloys; forming, separation, and shaping as manufacturing process for materials; processing of materials according to their properties; surface treatments. Prerequisites: MAT 125 ; CHE 113 / CHE 113D ; PHY 292 / PHY 292D with a grade of a C or higher. Offered: Fall, odd # years.
