Psychological Research in Child Development

Catalog description

We will discuss the developmental trajectory of numerous aspects of development, including but not limited to: brain development, language acquisition, and emotion understanding. Students will also learn prominent theories of child development, read and analyze past and current findings in the field, and apply methods used by developmental psychologists. The lab component of the course will allow students to apply their knowledge of child development by conducting a research project. In groups, students will complete a semester long research project addressing a question in child development. Through this project, students will gain hands on experience with all aspects of the scientific method - from reading relevant literature and identifying research questions to collecting data and running statistical analyses. At the end of course, students will present their findings to their peers and professors.
