Neuroimaging tools are increasingly used in clinical and research settings. This course surveys history, theories, and practices related to nervous system imaging. Topics include neurological structure and function, physical properties of tools, artifacts, neurological disorders, research practices, and therapeutic interventions. Discussed imaging tools investigate cellular recordings, psychophysiology, as well as electromagnetic and hemodynamic functions. Emphasis is placed on gaining theoretical knowledge about each tool’s physical mechanisms, as well as discussing practical applications, merits, and limitations. This graduate-level formatted course additionally involves a laboratory challenge, where students apply neuroimaging concepts through execution of a novel research project.
