Catalog description

Critical and analytical examination of the representation of minority groups in American television. Starting at the beginning of commercial radio and television, the course provides an overview of representation of a variety of minority groups, with a primary focus on the history of African Americans on the small screen. A diverse range of shows and a series of readings provide students rich material for profound considerations of historically underrepresented people on television. By the end of this course, students will have a basic understanding the history of diversity in American television.
