Catalog description

This course examines the role of work/career in forming one’s self-identity. It explores topics and issues such as: finding “meaning” and “purpose” in one’s work (beyond merely earning a living), the concept of “vocation,” exploitation and oppression (beyond isolated examples to include systemic forms), questions such as “are there jobs you wouldn’t take?” and “how can we make work ‘good’?” The course investigates how attitudes and structures of work have changed over time, and questions what the future of work might look like.
