Catalog description

Students will examine the moral philosophy of AI, including questions of personhood, authorship, and creativity, and the ways AI may alter barriers to entry by flattening traditional processes of struggle and artistic development. From a legal standpoint, the course addresses complex challenges surrounding copyright law, postmortem rights, intellectual property, and emerging regulatory frameworks that affect songwriters, performers, producers, and music business professionals. Creatively, students will gain hands-on experience with leading AI tools, such as but not limited to, Suno, Copilot, Sora, Descript, and Midjourney, to develop original works including songs, scripts, podcasts, videos, and marketing materials. Students will identify and apply best practices for leveraging AI within the creative marketplace, encompassing marketing, artist management, live events, and educational applications. Through this multifaceted approach, the course offers a balanced integration of legal analysis, philosophical reflection, and creative experimentation, equipping students to navigate the ethical, professional, and artistic dynamics of AI responsibly and effectively in the evolving music and entertainment landscape.
