Students build fluency in lighting principles, terminology, and professional standards as they study the relationship between daylight and electric lighting. The course emphasizes strategies that support task performance, visual hierarchy, and spatial atmosphere by organizing illumination into ambient, task, and focal layers. Students select appropriate electric lighting solutions, apply code-aware and energy-conscious decision-making, and evaluate environmental impacts. Emphasis is placed on lighting design that advances human health, safety, and well-being.
