This course is designed for aspiring educators who aim to develop effective strategies for teaching Social Studies to middle school students. Focusing on key themes such as history, geography, civics, economics, and culture, the course explores a variety of instructional methods and materials that foster critical thinking, historical inquiry, and global awareness. Students will learn how to integrate primary and secondary sources, digital tools, and multimedia resources to create engaging and interactive lessons that bring social studies content to life. Emphasis will be placed on designing student-centered lessons that encourage active participation, collaborative learning, and the development of essential skills such as analysis, argumentation, and citizenship. The course will also address how to implement Universal Design and differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students and how to assess both content knowledge and higher-order thinking skills. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to create dynamic, culturally responsive social studies lessons that engage middle school learners in understanding and reflecting on the world around them.
