Materials and Methods in Middle Education Math

This course prepares future educators to teach mathematics effectively at the middle school level by focusing on a diverse range of instructional strategies and resources. Students will explore research-based methods for fostering mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking in middle school learners. The course covers key concepts in mathematical content, such as number theory, algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics, while emphasizing how to make these concepts accessible and engaging for students with varying abilities. Attention is given to selecting and utilizing both traditional and digital materials, including manipulatives, visual aids, and online resources, to enhance learning experiences. Students will also learn how to implement Universal Design and differentiated instruction, design formative and summative assessments, and cultivate a classroom environment that encourages collaboration and active learning. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to create inclusive, engaging, and effective math lessons that promote deep mathematical understanding and inspire a love of mathematics in middle school students.
