History of Design and Culture II traces design from the height of industrialization to contemporary practice (1851-present). The course examines how mass production, modernism, media, global trade, and social movements transformed both dress and interior space. Students analyze the ongoing tension between machine aesthetics and craft revival, alongside the development of modern architecture, modern fashion, and evolving cultural identities. Through historical inquiry, they connect design movements to broader social change and contemporary practice.
