Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the life and thought of Thomas Merton, a figure intimately tied to Bellarmine University. Thomas Merton was in important 20th century American Catholic, whose autobiographical writings continue to inspire and whose writings on contemplation, dialogue, peace, and justice continue to influence people around the world. In this class students will read significant portions of Merton's writing, visit Bellarmine University's Thomas Merton Center, and visit the Abbey of Gethsemani where Merton lived.
