Catalog description

This course provides students an opportunity to gain experience in a health services or senior living setting, which supplements the experience and knowledge gained in the curriculum. The student will observe the approaches of the internship site's leadership in planning, directing, organizing, and evaluating the services that the site is licensed to provide to gain a basic understanding of operations. The student will participate in departmental rotations, analyzing the application of each of the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) administrative domains of practice. Following rotations, students will gain further understanding of leadership in health and aging services by working closely with the preceptor (the organization's leader) in daily operations and in engaging with external stakeholders. Students will also engage in projects of interest to the host organization designed to improve quality delivered to residents and enhance efficiency of operations. Internships may be completed at one internship site or multiple sites, depending on the structure of credits and hours completed. Emphasis is placed on professional behavior at the internship site, as well as feedback from the internship site preceptor and faculty.
