Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the psychological, emotional, and physical development of children from infancy through early childhood (age 8), with an emphasis on how health and illness influence these processes. Students will examine key developmental milestones, including cognitive growth, emotional regulation, attachment formation, and motor skill acquisition, while analyzing the impact of acute and chronic illnesses on developmental outcomes. Emphasis is placed on understanding how environmental factors, family dynamics, healthcare access, and cultural influences shape early development. Through case studies, observational activities, and evidence-based research, students will learn to identify typical and atypical developmental patterns and explore strategies to foster healthy growth in young children, particularly in the context of health challenges.
